Marriage can be a wonderful thing. It’s something that will no doubt change your life, so it should be taken with a lot of care. It can also be a very intimidating thing, and you’ll no doubt ask friends and family for advice. Here’s another little list that may help inspire you to make your marriage even more special and possibly last you for the rest of your life.
Be Sure. Most importantly, you need to be absolutely certain that you want to get married. Talk to other couples, talk to your parents, talk to your significant other. You’ll want to make sure the girl you’re dating actually wants to get married and actually wants to marry you. Always seek advice first if you even have the least bit of doubt because marriage is something that should last a lifetime.
Choose the right ring. Sometimes this can be harder than you’d think. Knowing the right size, deciding on silver or gold. Pay attention to the type of jewelry that she wears now. Again, talk to her friends and family to help you decide on what type, color, stone, and size. Some girls don’t even like diamonds and would be much happier with a ruby or emerald. If you want to make it really special, you can always have a ring designed. For the ultimate surprise, you can even take a lost wax class at a local community college and make a ring yourself.
Do it quick. If you buy a ring and wait months and months to come up with a fantastic proposal, your girl will by no doubt figure out that you’re planning on marrying her. If you’re sure you want to marry her, then do it before it’s too late. A simple “Will you marry me?” on one knee in your apartment one night is all that most girls want anyway. Don’t spend all your money on having the question written in the clouds or getting a member of the band who’s concert you’re attending to ask her for you.
Make it special. Though doing it sooner is better, it should be somewhat special because you will remember the moment (special or not) for the rest of your lives. Put effort into the right places. Do not, under any circumstances, propose while becoming intimate with your partner. You don’t want to falsely get her to say yes. Do make sure that it comes out of your own mouth, though. The last thing you want is for her to be unsure that you’re actually even asking her to marry you.
Marriage, above all else, should be about love. If you love someone, ask her to marry you as soon as possible so you can finally start your new life. Take time and care to make her life just as meaningful as she is to you. She won’t care how much you spent on a wedding ring or how long you thought about about the right words to say.
