Studies show that thousands of unwary drivers are subject to
the frightening and sometimes fatal occurrence of carjacking
each year. The first thing you need to do to help prevent
this from happening to you is to learn when and where
carjacking occurs most often. Usually, but most certainly
not the rule, is at intersections during nighttime hours and
parking lots are the most reported places where carjacking
takes place. Luxury cars and SUVs are two of the most
popular targets for carjackers. These type vehicles are
shipped over seas for resale or dismantled and sold for
parts. However, any car has the potential to become
carjacked, as some criminals are just looking for an
adrenalin rush by stealing a car and taking a joy ride.
Whatever the case, there are steps that you can take to
lesson your chances of being carjacked. You need to
remember that carjackers thrive on surprising their victims
and taking advantage of those who are not prepared and
unaware of their surroundings. There are numerous victims
who report that they were unaware of the criminal’s
presence until they appeared at their car window or door.
You should exercise a high level of common sense and always
be aware of your surroundings. Another tip is to always
park in a well-lit area at night or if you won’t be
returning to your vehicle until after dark, and you should
keep away from walls and thick shrubbery, as these are
great places for assailants to hide.
It is also a good idea, as you are returning to your
vehicle, to observe the area around it, people that look
like they are just loitering around or sitting in a car near
yours may be a potential threat. As you approach your car
look under and inside front and back before opening the
door. And while loading the back or trunk, make sure no one
is behind you.
Always lock all your doors right after you get in. A suspect
may wait until your vision is blocked before approaching.
Some people take the extra precaution of purchasing personal
safety products such as, pepper sprays, stun guns or
personal alarms. It’s a fact that any of these products can
save your life, but if the threat is only of losing your car
or your purse or wallet, depending on the situation it may
be better to just let them have it. We are more concerned
about your life rather than something that is replaceable.
However if you feel that your life is being threatened, or
kidnapping is the suspects goal then this writers opinion is
to take all necessary action to get away, and by using one
of the afore mentioned products, you can disable the
assailant first to eliminate the threat before seeking
help. Remember, Always Be Aware of Your Surroundings! Your
family wants to keep you as long as they possibly can. Thank
You. http://www.OfficialProSafety.com
