1. Use short web addresses to clean "dirty" urls. An example of a dirty url is this:
http://www.google.com.ph/search?q=nabaza&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
Dirty urls consists of punctuations, hyphens, equal sign, colon, amperstand, even it's technology is clearly exposed such as :"utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official" To clean it means to cloak, hide, protect and shorten it like so:
http://w1n.org/nabaz
2. Protect your affiliate commissions. For example this is my affiliate url on adreporting: http://www.adreporting.com/dir.php?a=160691&p=1&w=w1norg_referral
this is the same url when shortened:
http://w1n.org/adr
3. Remove file extensions for secrecy and search-engine friendliness. This is my services page: http://www.nabaza.com/services.htm when cleaned it looks like this: http://w1n.org/svcs
4. Add guessable entry point urls for your prospects and clients. Don't punish them. Do you know what is this page all about? http://www.Nabaza.com/what.htm how about if we make it like this: http://w1n.org/svcs I guess it's a services page. :)
5. Avoid punctuations on your url. Underscores sometimes can't be seen especially urls are treated like links and they are underlined. Make it easy for them. Take a look at this: http://w1n.org/nabaz view the source and you will see the punctuations.
6. You can still point people to a dynamic page without revealing your server type wheteher it's windows or unix server simply by using a url shortener like http://w1n.org/
7. Avoid the long, and deep directory urls like so:
http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/1998/nsf9814/nsf9814.htm when you can turn it into this:
http://w1n.org/nsf
8. Stop punishing your visitors when they accessed your urls outside their homes most probably on an internet cafes, do you like them to type it all or use a shortener?
9. Avoid and block the competition's url especially when you need to quote them in your messages, use a short url.
10. If you have long urls which fetches dynamic pages and can't be avoided, use a url shortener so it can be included on .xml or rss reader without producing any errors.
For all of these, you can benefit using http://www.w1n.org/ - We all w1n here and you are f1rst.
